Anchorage Assembly to vote on renewing six marijuana business licenses through 2028

Anchorage Assembly Chair Anna Brawley has submitted a resolution for the Assembly's Wednesday, Nov. 4, meeting that would renew city licenses for six cannabis businesses from Sept. 1, 2026, through Aug. 31, 2028. The measure would also tell the state the Assembly does not object to the businesses' state license renewals.

Voodoo Cannabis Company cultivates. True North Cannabis, Catalyst Cannabis Company and AK Joint are retailers. Tundra Farms and Cultivated Confections manufacture.

The Municipal Clerk reports none of the six owe the city taxes, fees or fines, according to the resolution. Each has an Assembly-approved special land use permit, and the city's finance, planning, fire, police, health and land use enforcement offices have signed off.

Catalyst's renewal file shows state regulators fined it $100 in April 2025 for an inventory-tracking violation after a former employee reported missing inventory at its Muldoon Road store. Will Schneider, replying for the company, blamed "human errors and insufficient inventory tracking practices" and said the company did not see "any evidence of diversion or nefarious conduct."

The resolution lists Wednesday as the last regular meeting before the Assembly's Nov. 17 deadline to protest to the state Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office. State rules require the Marijuana Control Board to uphold a local protest unless it finds the protest arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable. In August, the Assembly protested a grower's state renewal over $12,760 in unpaid taxes and an incomplete inspection, Alaska News reported Aug. 14.

A separate resolution from Brawley would waive protest of state renewals for seven other businesses that are not due for city renewal this year.
