Anchorage Assembly protests pot grower's license over $12,760 tax debt

The Anchorage Assembly entered a conditional protest of a marijuana grower's state license renewal Tuesday, citing unpaid taxes and an incomplete inspection.

AK Legend, LLC, doing business as AK Legend Gardens at 7750 King St., Unit 1, in the Taku/Campbell Community Council area, holds state marijuana license No. 32367. The company owes the municipality $12,760.98 in back taxes and fees, according to the resolution.

A July 15 business license review from the Municipal Clerk's Office broke the debt into $1,962.54 in business personal property tax, $2,539.62 in a PCS collection item and $8,258.82 in real property tax. The review set a July 22 deadline for the company to address the protest and directed the licensee to contact Didi Grein in the Finance Department.

Certification from the Finance Department remained outstanding because of the debt. Land Use Enforcement had not completed the required site inspection and certification of compliance. The Planning Department, the Anchorage Fire Department and the Anchorage Police Department had already certified the site, and the special land use permit for marijuana had been approved.

Assembly Chair Anna Brawley submitted the measure, AR 2026-236. Tuesday's meeting was the Assembly's last regular session before its Sept. 12 deadline to protest the license. The resolution also delegates authority to the Municipal Clerk to issue the renewal of municipal marijuana license No. M32367 once the outstanding items are resolved, and to lift the state protest without another Assembly vote.
