Aleut shareholders and descendants headed to school this winter or spring can apply for scholarships from The Aleut Corporation starting Sunday. Applications are due at noon Dec. 2 through the corporation's Ulakaia Center scholarship portal.

The center, formerly the Aleut Foundation, has given out almost $80 million in scholarships and support over the years, benefiting hundreds of shareholders and descendants, according to its webpage. It's now part of the corporation and is named for Ulakaia Hill on St. George Island.

Its scholarships and grants cover academic, vocational and technical, part-time and career development programs, among others. Recipients must keep at least a 2.0 GPA.

Scholarships are open to registered descendants as well as shareholders. Aleut is one of three regional corporations that haven't voted to issue shares to descendants, who can become shareholders when shares are gifted or inherited.

The center's last general scholarship window, for the fall and spring school year, closed July 31.

Aleut distributed more than $6.5 million in shareholder benefits in fiscal year 2026, according to its summer leadership update. This year's distribution was $10 a share, plus a $1,000 elder benefit.
