Nine candidates are running for three Aleut Corporation board seats

Nine candidates are running for three seats on the Aleut Corporation's nine-member board, and the early proxy deadline is 5 pm Wednesday.

Shareholders who miss it can still vote through Oct. 14. Proxies go to aleutvote.com. There are also two ballot measures.

Running are Jenifer Samuelson Nelson, the sitting board chair, along with Tara Bourdukofsky, Anthony Lekanof, David Foster, John Melovidov, Alexandra Philemonoff, Shaun Stark, Sarah Stepetin and Julie Toomey.

Corporation leaders held shareholder meetings ahead of the vote in Sand Point, Unalaska, Nelson Lagoon, St. George, King Cove and Atka.

The 54th annual meeting is Oct. 17 at 1 pm Pacific time at the Hilton Bellevue in Washington. The corporation, an ANCSA regional corporation with more than 5,000 Unangax̂ shareholders and descendants, holds the meeting in the Seattle area every three years; it says more than a quarter of its shareholders live there.
