A majority of Kodiak's assembly is up for election this fall

Four of the seven seats on the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly are up for election this fall — a majority of the body — and candidates have until Monday to get on the ballot.

Current member Caroline Olivia Roberts became one of the first to signal a run, filing a letter of intent Thursday. But that isn't a ballot spot on its own — to appear before voters in the Oct. 6 election, candidates for assembly, school board and service area seats must still file in person at the Clerk's Office by 3 pm Monday.

The turnover comes with an added vacancy — Dave Johnson's seat, which he left when he resigned in June, is being filled by an appointee only through October, when voters will choose who holds it next.
