Write-in David Pinquoch leads Whittier council seat E count
Write-in David Pinquoch, who holds Whittier City Council seat E, took 53 votes Tuesday to fellow write-in Heather Brazelton's 23. No candidate had filed for the seat. Brazelton serves on the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Vice Mayor Peter Denmark ran unopposed for seat F, the seat he already holds. He received 66 votes.
The totals are not final. Seventeen ballots remain uncounted: 11 cast early in person and six questioned ballots cast on Election Day.
Election workers counted 87 ballots by hand in council chambers, matching signatures against the precinct register. Two tally sheets showed different blank-vote totals for seat F, so workers recounted. The second count recorded 21 blanks in that race.
Remaining ballots will be counted Friday, Oct. 9, at 2 pm in council chambers. The City Council will certify the results Tuesday, Oct. 13. A candidate or any 10 qualified voters may file a written contest at that time.
