Troopers charge Fairbanks man with vehicle theft after McGrath Road hit-and-run

A Fairbanks man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a reported hit-and-run near McGrath Road led troopers to a vehicle a second caller said was stolen, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers took the hit-and-run report on Aug. 24. As units were responding, a second caller told them the vehicle involved had been reported stolen. Troopers found the driver nearby and identified him as Geomas Masang, 31, of Fairbanks.

Masang is charged with first-degree vehicle theft, second-degree theft, misconduct involving a weapon, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center. The charges are accusations, and Masang is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Troopers did not say what the vehicle struck or whether anyone was hurt.
