Troopers charge Fairbanks man with vehicle theft after McGrath Road hit-and-run
A Fairbanks man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a reported hit-and-run near McGrath Road led troopers to a vehicle a second caller alleged was stolen, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers received the hit-and-run report on Aug. 24. While units were responding, a second caller told troopers the vehicle involved had been reported stolen. Troopers contacted the driver in the area and identified him as Geomas Masang, 31, of Fairbanks, according to dispatch AK26083663.
Masang is charged with vehicle theft in the first degree, theft in the second degree, misconduct involving a weapon, failing the action of an operator immediately after an accident, and reckless driving. That fourth charge is the troopers' phrasing for failing to do what a driver must immediately after a crash.
He was transported and remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center without incident, troopers said. The charges are accusations, and Masang is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The dispatch does not say what the vehicle struck or whether anyone was hurt, and it gives no court date.
