Troopers arrest Nondalton man on burglary and assault charges after gunfire report

Gunfire reported in Nondalton on the morning of Friday, Sept. 4 drew Alaska State Troopers and Bristol Bay Borough Police to the village from King Salmon, ending in the arrest of a 22-year-old man now facing eight charges.

Troopers received the reports at 8:04 a.m., according to a daily dispatch entry posted Sept. 8, case AK26087768. Troopers found and arrested Cordelle Balluta-Trefon.

Investigators say Balluta-Trefon also forced entry into a residence and stole property. He was charged with one count each of Burglary in the 1st Degree, a class B felony, and Assault in the 3rd Degree, a class C felony, plus misdemeanor counts of Theft in the 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree and Reckless Endangerment. The assault count alleges causing fear of injury with a weapon. He also faces three counts of Violation of Conditions of Release, misdemeanors that indicate he was already under court supervision.

The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent. Court records show the complaint was filed in Naknek on Sept. 4, the day of the arrest. He was arraigned Sept. 6 and assigned a public defender Sept. 8. A pre-indictment hearing is set for 1:15 p.m. Sept. 15 in Naknek.

The dispatch contains no statement from Balluta-Trefon, from anyone at the residence, or from Nondalton residents.
