Troopers arrest Nanwalek man on domestic violence charges

Alaska State Troopers arrested a Nanwalek man Monday on domestic violence charges after he assaulted his partner in the presence of three children.

Troopers received a disturbance report at 4:43 a.m. June 2 and arrived in the roadless coastal village later that day. Terence P. Swenning, 27, was charged with fourth-degree assault and three counts of assault in the presence of a child, all domestic violence. He was remanded to Homer jail.

Nanwalek sits on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, accessible only by air or water. Alaska State Troopers serve as primary law enforcement in the village and other communities without road access.

Under Alaska law, separate counts are added when domestic violence assaults are committed in the presence of a child under 16 living in the household.

Charges reported are accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
