Alaska State Troopers arrested a 57-year-old Houston man Wednesday after a reported disturbance involving a firearm in the Big Lake area.

Troopers received the report of an active disturbance at about 4 pm, according to the Department of Public Safety daily dispatch. Their investigation led to the arrest.

The man faces one count of third-degree assault and two counts of assault in the presence of a child, troopers said. He was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial.

Third-degree assault is a class C felony under state law. Assault in the presence of a child is a class A misdemeanor. Under state law, it applies to an assault involving domestic violence committed with reckless disregard that a child under 16 is physically present or within hearing.

The investigation is ongoing, troopers said. The department said the charges are accusations and the man is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
