State plans to sell Homer contractor 5,000 cubic yards from Ohlson Mountain site
The Alaska Department of Natural Resources plans to sell Arno Construction Inc. 5,000 cubic yards of material from a state site atop Ohlson Mountain on the Kenai Peninsula, according to a notice of intent the department's Southcentral regional office posted Oct. 7.
That's roughly 400 to 500 loads in a standard dump truck, which holds 10 to 12 cubic yards, according to the department's material sales page. The notice doesn't say what kind of material it is.
Arno Construction is a Homer company that has won City of Homer contracts, including a $530,341 water main extension the City Council awarded it in 2016.
The state site covers about 1 acre near Diamond Ridge. It's a designated material site, and negotiated sales from those sites can run up to five years, according to the department.
The notice only states an intent to issue the contract. It doesn't mean a contract has been signed, and it gives no schedule for the work. The department will consider public comments on the notice but won't respond to them.
