Twenty-seven employers, from Doyon and the Federal Aviation Administration to Panda Express and Jiffy Lube, will be recruiting at a state job fair in Fairbanks on Thursday.

The fair runs from 11 am to 3 pm at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center. The Fairbanks Job Center usually holds its monthly fairs on the last Thursday of the month at the Fairbanks Regional Office Building on Seventh Avenue.

The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development's flyer also lists Foundation Health Partners, Fred Meyer, the Fairbanks Pioneer Home, Global Credit Union, Interior Weatherization, the Alaska Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve, along with the borough and the school district. That's nearly twice the 15 employers, mostly in retail, groceries, restaurants and banking, at the September fair, Alaska News reported Oct. 14.

Unemployment in the Fairbanks North Star Borough was 3.5% in September, compared with 3.9% statewide, according to preliminary state figures. About 700 fewer borough residents were working than a year earlier, and the labor force shrank by about the same amount.

The flyer suggests bringing a resume. Job seekers can print a few beforehand at the Fairbanks Job Center, where staff also offer free help with resumes and interviews.
