Some Sitka customers can't reach 911; call dispatch directly

Some Sitka phone customers can't reach 911. Until the line is repaired, police ask anyone who can't get through to call dispatch directly at 907-747-3245 — a line staffed around the clock.

The problem began Friday morning when a vehicle struck a utility line, damaging telecommunications and cutting 911 access for some providers. If a call gets a busy signal or won't connect, try again from a different phone provider or location.

Crews are working on the repair, with no estimate yet for when service will return.
