Pioneer Park main shelter closes mornings July 23-24 for volunteer work
Pioneer Park's main shelter will be off-limits each morning next week while volunteer groups carry out maintenance work at the Halibut Point Road facility, the City and Borough of Sitka announced. The closure runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Friday, July 23 and 24.
The park normally operates daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The closure covers only the shelter during those morning windows. Volunteer groups, including Sitka-based educational organization Outer Coast, will work across the park and its facilities during those hours, including with a pressure washer.
"For the safety of volunteers and visitors, the park's main shelter will be unavailable during the work period," the city said. The park itself stays open. Visitors are asked to use caution around volunteers and equipment.
The city expressed appreciation for the volunteers helping care for the community space. For more information, contact the City and Borough of Sitka Public Works Department at 907.747.1804.
