Peltola's first general election ad, out a day after the primary, runs against her own party.
Mary Peltola's campaign announced by press release Wednesday, the day after she advanced from Alaska's primary, that her first general election television ad is about breaking with Democrats.
The release cites press coverage describing her as one of the least loyal Democrats in Congress.
"When both parties are attacking you, you're doing something right," Peltola says in the 30-second spot, titled "For Alaska." She says she will take on anyone who doesn't understand what Alaska needs, including Democrats and anyone in the Lower 48, naming resource development, firearms and border security.
The campaign lists three breaks with her party: her support for the Willow Project, which the Biden administration approved in March 2023; her Second Amendment position; and more than $200 billion in border security and immigration enforcement funding.
The release credits her with funding for what it calls the largest Border Patrol workforce in the nation's history. That language is associated with legislation enacted in 2025, after Peltola left Congress in January of that year. The campaign does not say what appropriations it is counting.
Peltola joined the Blue Dog Coalition, a caucus of moderate House Democrats, in 2023. ProPublica's vote tracking recorded her voting against her party on 78 votes from the start of 2023, a rate above 12 percent and fourth highest among House Democrats, against a caucus average under 6 percent. She voted with her party about 88 percent of the time. Roll Call put her 2024 party unity score below 80 percent.
Peltola faces Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, who is seeking a third term, on Nov. 3 under ranked choice voting. The ad runs on broadcast and connected TV.
