Old Chena Ridge Road closed for duration of roundabout construction

Old Chena Ridge Road is fully closed to traffic at the Chena Small Tracts Roundabout construction site, and the closure will last for the duration of the project. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities updated the notice at 10:39 a.m. Friday.

It lists no end date and no detour route. The department's Invitation to Bid, the construction contract put out to bidders, sets a project completion date of October 30, 2026.

The closure is the latest at the intersection of Chena Pump Road, Old Chena Ridge Road and Chena Small Tracts Road. Chena Small Tracts Road closed for the 2026 season, with Old Chena Ridge Road and Transfer Site access following on July 27.

The department describes the project's purpose as improving safety and reducing wait times.
