Chena Small Tracts Road closed for the season as roundabout goes in

West Fairbanks drivers lose Chena Small Tracts Road for the rest of the construction season while crews build a roundabout where it meets Chena Pump and Old Chena Ridge roads.

The closure, in place since July 11, now runs through the end of the season — the contract lists completion by Oct. 30. The state's detours: Palo Verde Avenue, Amherst Drive and Dartmouth Drive. Old Chena Ridge Road and the Transfer Site access closed Monday for the season as well, Alaska News previously reported.

The roundabout comes bundled with resurfacing of Chena Pump Road and is meant to improve safety and cut wait times turning off side roads. The corridor work doesn't sleep, either: the nearby Chena Pump and Chena Ridge paving contractor is grading and paving around the clock from Ridgepoint Drive toward Isberg Road.
