Kuskokwim Corporation starts virtual elder series with Oct. 1 Zoom talk

The Kuskokwim Corporation will host its first TKC ROOTS: Evening with an Elder session Thursday, Oct. 1, at 5:30 p.m. on Zoom, giving shareholders anywhere a live link to elder knowledge.

TKC shareholder Jennie Zaukar is the featured elder. Cultural anthropologist Ann Fienup-Riordan will join the conversation, according to the meeting registration page. Fienup-Riordan has collaborated with Yup'ik elders and produced books documenting Yup'ik knowledge and traditions.

TKC describes the series as "a live conversation where we'll discuss stories, teachings, memories, and the importance of preserving our knowledge." Registration is required at https://zoom.us/meeting/register/pS8ghrvRT12-QM-DpLbFjw. Registrants receive an emailed invitation with the link to join.

Leaders of 10 Middle Kuskokwim communities formed The Kuskokwim Corporation in 1977, merging the region's village corporations under a single entity. The corporation marks its 50th anniversary this year and reports more than 4,300 shareholders living around the world.
