Bristol Bay Native Corporation is taking pitches for its December leadership forum

Anyone with an idea for what Bristol Bay's leaders should tackle at their annual gathering this December has until Oct. 2 to pitch it.

Bristol Bay Native Corporation is taking proposals for main-stage talks and breakout sessions at the 2026 Bristol Bay Leadership Forum, set for Dec. 10-11 in Anchorage. The forum, which has run for more than four decades, draws people from village corporations, village and city councils, boroughs and community groups to talk through the region's priorities. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes, and presenters from outside Bristol Bay can apply too. If slots go unfilled, BBNC will keep taking pitches on a rolling basis.

The forum is corporate-led, which is worth noting because it isn't the only seat of leadership in the region. The area's 31 tribes organize separately through the Bristol Bay Native Association, and some tribal governments hold that regional decision-making should stay grounded in tribal sovereignty and community-led processes — a view that doesn't always sit easily alongside a corporation-run forum.

BBNC has a couple of other events on the calendar: applications for its youth leadership forum, open to Bristol Bay students and BBNC descendants in grades 9-12, are due Oct. 9, and it's holding a career fair Oct. 3 in Naknek alongside its annual meeting.
