Kodiak Island Borough full property tax payments due Thursday, Oct. 15
Kodiak Island Borough property owners paying their tax bill in full, or who missed the Aug. 17 first-half deadline, must pay by Thursday, Oct. 15, the borough said Friday. Statements of $50 or less are also due in full by that date.
Unpaid balances after Oct. 15 face a 10% penalty plus 1% monthly interest, under borough rules. Accounts over $50 can be split into two payments. If the first half was paid on time, the second half is due Nov. 15.
The borough says postal rules have changed, so anyone mailing a payment should get the envelope "hand canceled" at the post office to guarantee a timely date stamp. Borough Manager Aimee Williams told the Assembly on Oct. 1, "Postmark now will show the date where item is first processed at an automated regional facility rather than the day it was dropped off."
Payments can be made online or in person at the borough cashier's office. Property owners with questions about their balance can contact the borough's Finance Department.
