Kenai refuge's environmental education building gets exterior repairs

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's environmental education building in Soldotna is getting exterior painting and repairs this fall.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hired 358 Investments LLC of Del Norte, Colorado, for the $48,358 job. The contract was set aside for small businesses and drew nine bids. Work began Sept. 18 and runs through Nov. 5.

The refuge's environmental education programs reach more than 12,000 students and visitors a year, according to a 2023 draft review of the refuge's public uses. More than 40,000 Kenai Peninsula kids have taken refuge field trips since 1983.
