Juneau youth basketball registration for ages 6 to 14 opens Monday at 8 am

Juneau Parks & Recreation opens registration for youth basketball Monday, Nov. 9, at 8 am. The program, for ages 6 to 14, costs $65 plus tax, the department announced.

Registration is done online and is first come, first served. Registrations that arrive after a division fills go on a waitlist. A $10 late fee starts Nov. 23, and registration closes Nov. 30 at 11:59 pm. Players must turn 6 by March 6, 2027.

The city's online catalog lists a coed division for 6-year-olds and coed and girls divisions for ages 7 and 8, 9 to 11 and 12 to 14. It says the league is open to all abilities. The department says the program is about skill development, fun and sportsmanship for newcomers and returning players.

The season runs Jan. 4 through March 6, with one-hour weekly practices and Saturday games between 10 am and 3 pm. Teams are coached by volunteers, and schedules will be made public in early January, according to the program page.

A preseason clinic on Dec. 19 at Kax̲dig̲oowu Héen Elementary School will focus on building and assessing players' skills and getting them ready for the season. It is optional, but the program page says "it is highly recommended that your player attend." More details will come after registration closes.

Last year, registration opened Nov. 10 at $55 plus tax, rose to $65 plus tax after Nov. 25 and closed Dec. 20.

Scholarships are available online through the Youth Scholarship Program, which can award up to $100 toward organized sports activities, including team registration fees.
