Gusts to 40 mph are coming across the Interior Tuesday into Wednesday

The Interior is in for a blow. West winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 arrive at 4 pm Tuesday and run through 10 pm Wednesday, and in the higher country sustained winds could hit 25 to 35 with gusts to 50. Limbs are likely to come down and the power may go with them.

It is a cold front, and it brings scattered to widespread rain showers across the Interior with it. The wind builds late Tuesday, peaks Wednesday and eases Wednesday night.

The advisories cover Fairbanks and Nenana, the Tanana Flats and the Central Interior, and a second zone running north and east of Fairbanks: the Yukon Flats, the Dalton Highway summits, the Upper Koyukuk, Fortymile Country, Delta Junction and Salcha, the Chena and Chatanika valleys, Two Rivers, and the White Mountains and high ground south of the Yukon River. The strongest winds are in that high terrain.

Wind at that speed "can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," the National Weather Service in Fairbanks wrote, and it asked people to secure anything loose outside.

After that it turns milder, with scattered showers and a slight warming trend through the rest of the week.
