Guest use of AlaskaJobs does not meet unemployment registration rule, state says

Unemployment insurance claimants who browse AlaskaJobs as guests, rather than registering, can lose their benefits, the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development says. The Juneau Job Center's weekly job list links to AlaskaJobs, but the guest-user warning comes from separate state guidance.

That guidance says workers living in Alaska must register and create an online resume in AlaskaJobs within seven days of establishing an initial claim. Using the system as a guest user does not satisfy that registration requirement, according to the portal. Failure to meet the requirements by the scheduled due date "may result in the denial of UI benefits," the guidance says. The department's general unemployment page adds that all workers must actively seek and report weekly work searches.

The warning sits alongside the Juneau Job Center's latest weekly "Hot Jobs" bulletin, which lists dozens of recent AlaskaJobs postings for the Juneau area across local government, education, health care and private employers. The list includes a digital content specialist and a building custodian with Juneau. It also includes an assistant principal, paraeducator and computer technician with the Juneau School District. More than a dozen University of Alaska positions appear, ranging from library assistant to associate vice provost. SEARHC is hiring a clinical dietitian and behavioral health clinicians. Goldbelt Aerial Tramway lists a long slate of jobs, from dishwasher and deckhand to software architect. Other employers on the list include NANA Management Services, Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority, Central Council Tlingit and Haida, Sealaska Heritage Institute, Wells Fargo, McDonald's and Alaska Litho.

The registration rules can be harder to meet for claimants with limited broadband or account-access problems, who may need phone help rather than the portal alone. Claimants who no longer have the original email used to set up their MyAlaska account can call the UI claim center at 907-269-4700, available 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, to request a reset.
