GSA extends Anchorage firm's Census headquarters cleaning contract one month

The General Services Administration obligated $260,043 on Oct. 28 to keep Anchorage-based Alutiiq Logistics & Maintenance Services cleaning U.S. Census Bureau headquarters in Suitland, Maryland, for another month. The extension runs through Nov. 30 and brings obligations on the order to about $8.6 million since May 2023.

The order's last option year ended May 31. GSA then extended the work five months in May at about $1.3 million. The award record shows the latest change exercises a one-month option under the federal acquisition rule that lets an agency extend services under an existing contract.

The work covers custodial services at the headquarters' North and South buildings and the Suitland Childcare Center for GSA's Public Buildings Service. It is a call order placed against a blanket purchase agreement, and the award record says it re-established the services from an earlier call under the same agreement. The amount is what has been obligated to date, not what has been spent.

The award record lists Afognak Native Corporation as the company's parent. A federal-contract aggregation identifies the firm as an Alaska Native Corporation-owned, 8(a)-certified small disadvantaged business that provides facilities maintenance, janitorial, logistics and base-operations support. The 8(a) designation marks a federal small-business development program. The aggregation counts $67.8 million in obligations to the firm in fiscal 2025 and about $199 million across fiscal years 2023 through 2027. The company's contract vehicles page lists its GSA Schedule contracts for facilities services.

The 8(a) program has drawn federal scrutiny this year. Alaska News reported May 27 on a Small Business Administration freeze on new subsidiary applications that threatened Alaska Native corporations' $9 billion annual federal contracting footprint. That reporting said the work supports 50,000 jobs worldwide and returns $300 million to $350 million a year to Alaska Native shareholders.
