Coast Guard extends Anchorage firm's contracts $2.2 million through January

The Coast Guard added about $2.24 million this month to two contracts it awarded without competition to Koniag Management Solutions, an Anchorage-registered subsidiary of the Kodiak regional Native corporation.

Most of it is a five-month extension, along with the exercise of another renewal year. Neither action was competed.

The contracts cover facilities maintenance and logistical support and now run through January 2027. The work is performed at Coast Guard facilities in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Anchorage is where the company is registered, not where the work happens.

Both were awarded under the federal 8(a) program, which lets agencies hand work directly to Alaska Native corporations and other disadvantaged small businesses rather than take bids. Each drew a single offer, which is what a direct award ordinarily produces.

The two contracts have obligated about $25.4 million since July 2021.

Neither the Coast Guard nor the company has commented publicly on the extensions.
