Former Rep. Carl Morgan, mayor of Aniak and Kuskokwim Native leader, has died

Former Alaska Rep. Carl Morgan, a Kuskokwim River leader who served in the Alaska State House from 1999 to 2004, has died, Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced Tuesday from Anchorage.

Morgan was born in Upper Kalskag on Jan. 21, 1950, according to his Alaska State Legislature member record. He worked as an electrician before his legislative service, the governor's office said, describing him as a lifelong Alaskan.

He served as mayor of Aniak and held leadership positions with the Aniak Traditional Council, the Kuskokwim Native Association and Calista Corporation.

Dunleavy and First Lady Rose Dunleavy sent condolences to Morgan's family.

The governor's announcement did not give the date of Morgan's death.

Dunleavy will order state flags lowered on a date set in coordination with Morgan's family. No order had been posted as of Tuesday. The governor's office posts flag orders on its flag status page.
