Fire activity slows eastbound Alaska Highway traffic near Tok

Fire activity is affecting eastbound traffic on the Alaska Highway just east of mile 1315, near Tok, according to an Alaska 511 alert posted at 7:25 am Tuesday. The road is open.

The alert rates the event major severity and tells drivers to slow down, watch for emergency vehicles and expect minor delays. It lists no lane closures.

It is the same stretch where the Mukluk Fire forced Level 3 GO evacuations a day earlier, with evacuees directed to the Tok Dog Mushers Association Hall. The highway stayed open through those orders.

The 511 card gives no cause, size or containment figure, and no fire-management update has been issued.
