Alaska State Troopers responded to a fatal fire in Big Lake on May 6, 2026. A travel trailer on Burma Road was fully engulfed when troopers arrived at 2:30 a.m.

Human remains were found inside the trailer. The victim's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The trailer sat in a rural part of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, outside established fire district boundaries.

Fire investigators traced the fire to the center of the trailer, near a large propane tank that fed a personal heater. According to the Alaska State Troopers incident report, the cause was determined to be accidental, pending the ongoing investigation.

The fire was confined to the trailer with little risk of spreading to surrounding trees or structures.
