Fairbanks woman charged with felony assault after Parks Highway injury crash

A Fairbanks woman has been charged with felony assault, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an injury crash after a collision on the Parks Highway on Sunday night, according to court records.

Alaska State Troopers said Jennifer Chambers, 38, was driving under the influence of alcohol near Mile 318 when she collided with another driver, who was injured, and then left the scene, according to a trooper dispatch. Troopers got the report shortly before 10 pm. Chambers was arrested and taken to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

Court records list the assault count as third-degree assault causing injury with a weapon but do not say what the weapon was. Under state law, the charge covers recklessly injuring someone with a dangerous instrument, which can include a vehicle.

Troopers have not identified the other driver or said how badly they were hurt.

Chambers was arraigned Monday, and a preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 8. Charges are accusations, and she is presumed innocent.
