Driver ejected in Glenn Highway rollover near mile marker 34
A driver suffered serious injuries Wednesday afternoon after a pickup truck left the Glenn Highway, struck the center median and rolled, throwing him into the northbound lanes, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers responded at 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 30 to the crash near mile marker 34, according to trooper dispatch AK26097419. The driver, an adult male, had been traveling south in a 2013 Chevy Silverado before he left the highway and struck the median. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The trooper dispatch does not name him.
Crews shut down northbound Glenn Highway briefly to remove the truck and debris.
The crash site sits at the start of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities' Glenn Highway reconstruction between mileposts 34 and 42. The department says the design calls for a four-lane divided highway with a grassy median, intended to reduce head-on and left-turn collisions. Its project page says work on the section that includes milepost 34 began in summer 2023 and was expected to last through the end of 2025. The page does not say whether that work is finished.
The dispatch gives no cause for the rollover and says the investigation is ongoing.
