Troopers arrested a 35-year-old Soldotna man Friday night on assault, DUI and three other charges after a rear-end crash near the Ciechanski neighborhood, according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch. The crash happened at about 9:24 pm Friday. The struck car was stopped at a stop sign, troopers said. A witness told troopers the at-fault driver was trying to leave the scene and appeared to be intoxicated. Troopers said the man was still trying to leave when they arrived. They accuse him of resisting arrest and assaulting a trooper at the scene. Investigators determined he was under the influence of alcohol and had caused pain to the two people in the car he struck. He was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility on charges of assault, DUI, resisting arrest, violating conditions of release and leaving the scene of an accident. The charges are accusations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty, the dispatch says. Troopers' A Detachment posted the report Saturday morning.
