Disabilities council seeks testimony on virtual special-education services

Alaskans can tell the Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special Education how special-education services delivered by video are working, during public testimony from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5. The council wants to hear about IEP services delivered over Zoom, Teams and other virtual platforms in Alaska. It will accept testimony on other topics too.

An IEP is an individualized education program for a student with a disability. Alaska counted 20,578 special-education students ages 3 through 21 on Oct. 1, 2024, according to state education data.

The testimony opens the council's fall meeting, which runs through Tuesday. Speakers get three minutes each unless the chair or a council motion extends that limit. They may testify in person in the first-floor conference room of the Atwood Building, 550 W. 7th Ave., Anchorage.
