Fairbanks dense fog advisory expired at noon after visibility fell to 100 yards

The fog in Fairbanks got thick enough Monday morning that a driver could see about a hundred yards ahead, and it did that an hour after the advisory was supposed to have ended.

Visibility at Fairbanks International was down to a quarter mile by 9:24 am. It bottomed out around 10:53, at roughly 300 feet. The National Weather Service had issued the dense fog advisory at 7:30 am to run until 10, then pushed it to 11, then to noon.

The advisory covered Fairbanks, Ester, Fort Wainwright, North Pole and Fox. Forecasters told drivers to slow down, use headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead, and said the fog would hang on another hour or two.
