Dense fog cuts Annette Island visibility to a quarter mile
Dense fog dropped visibility on Annette Island to a quarter mile or less Tuesday night, and the advisory runs until 9 am Wednesday.
It's the third fog advisory the National Weather Service has issued for the southern panhandle in about a day. Earlier ones covered Ketchikan Gateway Borough and Prince of Wales Island, then extended to Wrangell and Annette Island through midday Tuesday.
Drivers are advised to slow down, use headlights and leave extra room ahead.
Separately, a wind advisory is in effect for Skagway from 7 am to 7 pm Wednesday, with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts to 40. Forecasters say the gusts could move unsecured objects, bring down tree limbs and knock out power in spots.
