Dense fog could cut Petersburg Borough visibility to a quarter mile Tuesday morning
The National Weather Service in Juneau has Petersburg Borough under a dense fog advisory until 11 am Tuesday, with visibility down to a quarter mile. The advisory was first issued at 8:33 pm Monday.
Forecasters said low visibility could make travel hazardous. Drivers should slow down, use their headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead of them.
The advisory also covers Angoon. Patchy fog is forecast in other parts of the Panhandle early this week, including Juneau and Gustavus. Petersburg can expect patchy fog Tuesday morning and areas of fog again Wednesday morning.
Forecasters expect heavy rain in parts of Southeast starting Wednesday night. An atmospheric river Thursday may bring rain rates above half an inch per hour at higher elevations. The remnants of Typhoon Koguma are expected to move into the Gulf of Alaska over the weekend, adding uncertainty to the forecast. Ketchikan and Hyder have a 100% chance of rain Tuesday, with 0.75 to 1 inch expected.
