Cook Inlet Tribal Council opens four-week communication workshop

Cook Inlet Tribal Council is offering a four-week communication workshop series starting Monday that integrates Western communication theory with Alaska Native cultural values.

The course, titled Effective Communication: Speaking Clearly, Listening Deeply, runs four consecutive Mondays at 3:30 p.m. at the tribal council's Anchorage facility at 3600 San Jeronimo Drive. The sessions are scheduled for June 8, June 15, June 22, and June 29. The class is part of CITC's ongoing career-skills offerings, which the organization has listed on its public calendar since at least 2024.

The curriculum teaches how messages are shaped, filtered, and received, with practice at each stage of the process. The course emphasizes respect, relationship-building, active listening, and intentional speech. It reframes effective communication as understanding the full process rather than increasing speech volume.

Cook Inlet Tribal Council is an Alaska Native nonprofit that provides education, employment, recovery, and family services to Alaska Native and American Indian people in the Cook Inlet region. The organization incorporates Alaska Native values and culture into its programs.
