AFN opens Co-Chair nominations ahead of October convention vote
The Alaska Federation of Natives will elect a new co-chair at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage on October 24, with nominations open through noon on September 25.
AFN is the largest statewide Native organization in Alaska, representing roughly 180,000 Alaska Natives through 196 federated tribes and more than 150 member groups and corporations.
Candidates must submit written intent naming the delegate or member organization that nominated them to [email protected] or by mail to AFN's Anchorage office. AFN strongly encourages each candidate to submit a pre-recorded video message of no more than five minutes for the virtual convention platform and AFN social media channels.
Candidates who want to speak in person may deliver live remarks on the morning of October 23.
Resolutions for the 2026 convention are due August 21. They must address issues of statewide or broader significance, be limited to a single issue, and be accompanied by a one-paragraph problem statement that clearly explains the issue for AFN to address. Resolutions may be submitted by email to [email protected], by mail to 3000 A Street, Suite 210, Anchorage, AK 99503, or by fax to 907-276-7989.
Any resolution requesting funding, legal action, or endorsements is referred to the AFN Board of Directors. Resolutions on issues determined to be divisive among member organizations are likewise referred to the Board.
