BLM awards Fort Yukon tribal consortium $500,000 for fire module task orders

Two federal task orders totaling $500,000 fund the Fort Yukon-based wildland fire crew through March 31, 2031. The records do not detail staffing levels or deployment guarantees.

USAspending.gov lists Interior as the awarding department and the Bureau of Land Management as subagency for both orders, issued Thursday to the Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments. Each $250,000 order runs from Aug. 20, 2026, through March 31, 2031, about four years and seven months. Award 140L0226F0025 covers "26.16 AKCC SMOD ASSIGNMENT TASK ORDER 25," and 140L3726F0277 covers "AKCC SMOD SERVICE - MUKLUK AK-TAS-613487 O-1." Postings lag the actual award by two to six weeks. Alaska Fire Service, which manages these contracts, moved from BLM to the newly formed U.S. Wildland Fire Service earlier in 2026.

CATG, headquartered in Fort Yukon, has held an Alaska Type 2 contract crew agreement since BLM awarded the Upper Yukon region contract in April 2020, with assembly points in Fort Yukon, Venetie and Arctic Village. BLM created the program to meet the need for Type 2 crews amid the changing complexity of managing Emergency Fire Fighter crews. The program has since grown to nine crews.
