Bethel's mayor files to run for her city council seat again

Bethel Mayor Rose "Sugar" Henderson filed a letter of intent Thursday to run for a city council seat in Bethel's Oct. 6 municipal election. In Bethel, the council picks the mayor from among its own members, so it is Henderson's council seat that goes before voters.

Henderson is a familiar name on the ballot. She has served multiple terms on the city council and currently serves as its mayor, a post she has held before. Her letter records her legal name and contact information but no platform statement or financial disclosures.

A letter of intent is not a completed candidacy. Candidates must also file a Declaration of Candidacy packet with the city clerk; those packets became available July 29. The filing period opened Aug. 5 and closes at 4 p.m. Aug. 20, so Henderson's letter came a day into the window.
