Bethel council to take up a holiday rescheduling rule, in a code section that does not set meeting dates

Bethel's city council could move its regular meetings when they fall on a holiday, under an ordinance up for introduction Tuesday.

Mayor Rose "Sugar" Henderson is the sponsor. The council meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

The change would go into the section of city code covering how the council organizes itself. That section does not set meeting dates. It covers electing a mayor and vice mayor and fixes one meeting to the first Monday after an election is certified. The dates themselves live in a different section, which already lets the council postpone or reschedule by majority vote.

The city posted the agenda but not the ordinance, so its wording is not yet public. Nothing in the material says why Henderson brought it forward.

The item is on the consent agenda, meaning it passes with the agenda unless a member pulls it for discussion. Ordinances introduced Tuesday can be set for a public hearing at the next regular meeting.
