BBNC Dillingham IT apprenticeship applications close Friday

Applications close Friday, Sept. 4, for a one-year information technology apprenticeship based at the Choggiung Limited office in Dillingham. The apprentice works while taking coursework toward CompTIA certifications.

Which certifications is not settled on paper. Bristol Bay Native Corporation's Aug. 26 announcement said participants would prepare for A+ and Security+. The September listing says A+ and Network+. Those point toward different work: one toward securing systems, the other toward running networks.

Applicants have to be a BBNC shareholder, descendant or spouse, or a Choggiung Limited shareholder. They must be 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED, pass a background check, and fill out a Talent Bank profile at mybbnc.net. BBNC is running the program with Choggiung and the Alaska Vocational Technical Center, the state's vocational school in Seward.

Two other BBNC training programs are taking applications. Fiber optic installation training with NSTI runs Oct. 26 through 28 in Anchorage, after 16 hours of online coursework due Oct. 18; applications close Oct. 6. An advanced Microsoft Office course with Northern Industrial Training and SAVEC runs Nov. 16 through 20 in King Salmon, with airfare, lodging and food covered; applications close Oct. 16.
