BBNC Dillingham IT apprenticeship applications close Friday

Applications for a one-year information technology apprenticeship based in Dillingham close Friday, Sept. 4, one of three Bristol Bay Native Corporation training openings now accepting applications.

The position is based at the Choggiung Limited office in Dillingham. The apprentice works while taking courses toward CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications over one year, according to BBNC's posting.

Applicants must be a BBNC shareholder, descendant or spouse, or a Choggiung Limited shareholder. They must be 18 or older, hold a high school diploma or GED, pass a background check, and complete a Talent Bank profile at mybbnc.net.

BBNC is running the apprenticeship with the Alaska Vocational Technical Center, the state's Seward-based training division under the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, and with Choggiung Limited.

BBNC's Aug. 26 announcement of the AVTEC partnership described the certification target differently, saying participants would prepare "to earn A+ and Security+ certifications." The September listing names Network+ instead.

BBNC is also taking applications for fiber optic installation training with NSTI. Hands-on sessions run in Anchorage Oct. 26-28, preceded by 16 hours of online coursework due Oct. 18. That application deadline is Oct. 6. An advanced Microsoft Office training with Northern Industrial Training and SAVEC runs Nov. 16-20 in King Salmon, with airfare, lodging and food provided. That deadline is Oct. 16.

BBNC offered a similar one-year IT apprenticeship with AVTEC in 2024, with an application deadline of Aug. 30 that year. Bristol Bay Native Association has been building a regional internship and apprenticeship framework since 2022, including vocational training in information technology, with a goal of 156 student internships through 2027. UAF's Bristol Bay Campus in Dillingham won an $888,749 National Science Foundation grant for a "grow-your-own" science credential.
