Another round of damaging wind is headed for the Interior

Interior Alaska is in for more wind. Forecasters say gusts could hit 70 mph around Delta Junction, the northern Denali Borough and the Eastern Alaska Range north of Trims Camp, including Windy Pass, strong enough to knock down trees and power lines and cause widespread outages.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks issued a high wind watch early Friday. It expects south winds of 30 to 40 mph from Sunday evening through late Tuesday, though the timing and strength of the hardest gusts are still uncertain, and Delta Junction may see it a little weaker. High-profile vehicles will have a rough time.

Delta Junction has been getting hammered all month. Wind advisories hit July 14, 17 and 21 with gusts of 55 to 60 mph, and July 21 brought a 58 mph gust and blowing dust that cut visibility to a quarter mile. The Eastern Alaska Range zone drew a matching 70 mph watch back on July 12.

The watch runs through 4 a.m. Aug. 5.
