Anchorage runs into summer at the 20th Twilight 12K
The 20th Twilight 12K drew 1,847 runners on May 29, the largest field in a decade. The event included 890 finishers in the 12K and 957 in the Skinny Mini 6K.
Photos from the night show runners packed shoulder to shoulder at the start. Kids ran with adults. Friends posed in matching Twilight shirts and reflective sunglasses. Volunteers handed out food and drinks. Vendors and sponsors filled the grass. A band played. People lingered with beer, burgers and race medals after the running was done.
The course runs through city streets, over bridges, past the water, under new green leaves and low evening sun. Mountain snow was still visible above town.
Riley Howard of Anchorage won the men's 12K in 37 minutes, 16 seconds. Taylor Deal of Anchorage won the women's 12K in 43:19. Michael Enderle of Wasilla won the non-binary division in 48:24.
The field stretched across ages and speeds. C. Shockley of Eagle River won the girls 1-12 group in 58:21. Bill Grether of Anchorage won the men's 70-and-over group in 1:05:52.
In the Skinny Mini 6K, Walo Orozco of Anchorage won overall in 19:58. Morgan Ekemo of Eagle River won the women's 6K in 24:17.
