The Anchorage Assembly holds a public hearing Wednesday, Nov. 4, on a proposal that would require candidates for mayor, Assembly and School Board to disclose any residential property tax exemption they claimed during their required residency period.

Under the ordinance, proposed by East Anchorage Assembly Member George Martinez, the city clerk would review any candidate whose exemption address doesn't match the address on their declaration of candidacy. The candidate would get a chance to reconcile the records. How long candidates must live in Anchorage or their district wouldn't change.

A candidate who doesn't disclose would be referred to the municipal attorney and the city assessor. If passed, the ordinance would take effect immediately.
