Alaska Municipal League sets Oct. 23 deadline for 2027 resolutions

Alaska's cities and boroughs have until Oct. 23 to tell the Alaska Municipal League what to push for with the state and federal governments in 2027.

The league, which advocates for 165 cities and boroughs, adopts resolutions each year spelling out specific actions it will seek from the governor, the Legislature, state agencies, the president or Congress. Members can also propose changes to its broader 2027-28 Policy and Position Statement by the same date.

Only councils and assemblies of member municipalities, affiliated municipal groups, the league's board and the Alaska Conference of Mayors can submit resolutions, and each needs a formal vote of the sponsoring body, according to the league's 2027 guidelines. The league combines resolutions on the same topic and rewrites any that would benefit a single community so they apply more broadly.

Members vote on the resolutions and the policy statement the morning of Friday, Dec. 11, at the league's annual business meeting. That caps its 76th Annual Local Government Conference, Dec. 7-11 at the Dena'ina Center in Anchorage. A resolution that misses the October deadline can still go to the league's resolutions committee Dec. 9 if five member municipalities back it.

Members will also elect officers and directors, including president, vice president, treasurer and several district seats. Applications for board seats and for the league's Legislative Committee, which weighs in on its positions and meets weekly by phone during the legislative session, are due Dec. 4, with a later in-person option at the conference. Advance conference registration closes Nov. 13.
