Anchorage grant would keep HIV testing and outreach going through 2027

Anchorage would keep offering HIV education, counseling and testing to high-risk people who don't have regular access to a clinic, under a $114,470 state grant on the Assembly's consent agenda Tuesday.

The money, from the Alaska Department of Health, funds the city's offsite HIV-prevention work through June 2027 — mostly staff time, plus supplies — and continues a grant the city has received for years at roughly the same level. There's no public hearing set.

The program targets people at elevated risk of HIV, including those who inject drugs or share needles, have repeated contact with someone who has the virus, or do sex work.
