
Anchorage Board of Equalization sets six assessment appeal hearings next week
Anchorage property owners contesting their 2026 assessments will get six chances to make their case before the Board of Equalization next week, with outcomes that can change assessed values and tax bills for hundreds of appellants.
The Municipality of Anchorage Department of Finance has scheduled the hearings Aug. 18 through Aug. 21 at City Hall, 632 W. Sixth Ave., Room 310. Aug. 18 and Aug. 21 each include morning and afternoon sessions; Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 are afternoon only. Morning sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and afternoon sessions run from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Notices post Aug. 15, with each notice period closing the day after its hearing.
The schedule follows similar sessions in late July, including a July 31 morning hearing that was canceled. The Property Appraisal Division received nearly 2,000 appeals in 2026, and the Assembly appointed 12 additional Board of Equalization members on April 1 to handle the volume. Mayor Suzanne LaFrance told the Assembly on Feb. 17 that staff had "received about 1,800 formal appeals, which is substantially more than last year." Separately, a review found about 660 homes will get revised, lower assessments.
