Anchorage Assembly to waive protest of 41 marijuana license renewals, nine in Spenard
The Anchorage Assembly will vote Tuesday, Oct. 20, on two resolutions that would tell state regulators the city has no objection to renewing 41 marijuana licenses. Both are consent items, which do not require a public hearing.
One resolution also approves 10 municipal marijuana license renewals for Sept. 1, 2026, through Aug. 31, 2028. The other, submitted by Assembly Chair Anna Brawley, covers 31 businesses whose municipal licenses are not due for renewal this year.
The Spenard Community Council is named in nine of the 41 state renewal notices, the most of the 10 community councils involved. Taku/Campbell follows with eight.
The Spenard businesses are Anchorage Bowl LLC's store, manufacturing facility and limited cultivation facility at 4000 Spenard Road; Red Run Cannabis Company on West 36th Avenue; Double Eagle Cannabis on Spenard Road; Weed Mart on Photo Avenue; BAM Alaska's cultivation facility and The House of Green, both at 3105 Minnesota Drive; and Catalyst Cannabis Company at 4707 Spenard Road.
The city has 60 days from each state notice to protest. The Municipal Clerk set Oct. 31 as the Assembly's last day to file, making Tuesday its last regular meeting before then. The state Marijuana Control Board upholds a local protest unless it finds the protest arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable.
Anyone may object in writing to the applicant and the Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office within 30 days of a notice. Red Run's window ends Oct. 14. Anchorage Bowl's and Double Eagle's close Nov. 6.
The office's director, Kevin Richard, can approve renewals that draw no protests, objections or notices of violation. Otherwise the board decides, and a temporary license is issued in the meantime.
