Alaska Power Company asks to waive charges for customers cut off by disasters

Alaska Power Company has asked state regulators to let it waive reconnection, customer and demand charges for customers cut off by a natural disaster. The company could require documentation showing a customer qualifies. Comments are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 7.

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska published the Notice of Utility Tariff Filing on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026. The filing, TA931-2, would amend the tariff, the schedule of rates and service terms a utility files with the state. The company asked that the change take effect Nov. 5.

The notice says it "does not contain all requested revisions" and that the commission "may approve a rate or classification that varies from those proposed."

The commission takes written comments through its public-notice portal at rca.alaska.gov and asks commenters to reference TA931-2 and to state that they have sent a copy to the company. The full filing can be read by typing TA931-2 into the commission's Find a Matter search box.

Alaska Power Company is the regulated electric subsidiary of Ketchikan-based Alaska Power & Telephone.
